紫砂泥原料，主要分为紫泥、绿泥和红泥三种，俗称"富贵土"。因其产自江苏宜兴，故称宜兴紫砂。相传古时候宜兴街头，一日突然有一僧人沿街叫卖:"卖富贵土了!谁买富贵土?买了就可以发家致富。"因此而得名。
